This was brought about by an increased number of people in the camp, and a lack of water sources. And since Zam Zam camp is so large, new arrivals to the camp live further away from water sources (as much as 3 km). Imagine having to walk that far and wait over twenty-four hours for drinkable water.
The residents of Gireida are in desperate need of food and shelter, even by Darfur standards. They were displaced –and prevented from farming– by the ongoing war.
